Safety, Health, and the Environment
Safety is one of Parsons’ six core values, and we are recognized as a worldwide leader in occupational health and safety—as well as in our care for the environment. We are one of only nine companies in the United States that has been accepted into OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) and, currently, Parsons has 12 sites. This recognition validates our proactive safety management system, which is designed to make safety personal. We care for our employees whether they are at work or at home. Internationally, our consulting services in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, were recognized in 2009 by the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority, which named Parsons Consultant of the Year for safety.
Parsons has adopted a policy of zero incidents. This proactive approach and its related techniques are reflected in our SHARP (Safety, Health, and Risk Program) management. This one-of-a-kind best practices guide was designed in response to these requirements:
- Support our project and office locations.
- Achieve sustainable progress in reducing injuries and illnesses. SHARP begins with addressing safety as early as possible during the procurement phase, and it continues through startup, design, preconstruction, construction, commissioning, and project closeout.
- Parsons’ safety efforts are visible—and familiar—in our offices and on our projects.
- Working with our training and development department, we create and deliver a yearly safety training program. Through ParsonsU, we reach each employee throughout the world to cultivate our core value of safety.
- Our office locations create standing health and safety committees, as well as emergency response teams, to ensure that our employees have a safe and healthy work environment and are prepared to respond to an emergency.
- We involve our families by sponsoring an annual children’s safety calendar that focuses on hazards at home through the eyes of children’s drawings.
- Our offices offer first-aid and CPR/AED training to our employees and their families.
- Our weekly safety training features off-the-job safety messages for our employees to share with their families.
